Truck collides with Cox’s Bazar-bound train in Gazipur

A collision occurred between a Cox’s Bazar-bound Parjatak Express train and a cement-laden truck at College Gate rail crossing in Gazipur’s Pubail area. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

The incident took place around 7:00 am on Tuesday (September 30) at College Gate level crossing under Ward 41 of Pubail Police Station in Gazipur Metropolitan area.

The truck, belonging to Seven Rings Cement Company, was struck by Parjatak Express. As a result, train movement on the route was suspended for nearly an hour. However, no major injuries or fatalities occurred.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck became stuck on the railway tracks while trying to cross the gate. As the train approached, people nearby began shouting in panic. Although bystanders attempted to push the truck off the tracks, their efforts were unsuccessful. Moments later, the train’s engine struck the rear of the truck, breaking the door of one of the AC coaches. The train came to a stop shortly afterward.

Passengers credited the train driver’s quick thinking for preventing a major accident. Passenger Arif Hossain said, “The driver had already applied the brakes in advance. Otherwise, it could have been a disastrous accident. We were all terrified, but narrowly escaped.”

Rail gatekeeper Swapan said, “I had closed one side of the gate when suddenly the truck stalled on the tracks. Despite efforts, it couldn’t be moved. That’s when the Parjatan Express hit it.”

The truck driver, describing the frightening moment, said, “The vehicle suddenly stopped. I kept trying to restart it, but it wouldn’t turn on. Then the train hit the back of the truck.”

Train services remained suspended for about an hour following the incident, but operations resumed after recovery efforts were completed. No official statement has yet been released by the railway authorities.
