Shomoyer Tarunyo has announced the “Shomoyer Tarunyo Media Award-2026” to encourage and recognise young journalists, media professionals, producers and creative practitioners for responsible media practices, human dignity and positive social change.
The award is being jointly organised by Plan International Bangladesh and JAAGO Foundation Trust, with support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bangladesh.
Building on the success of the previous media award organised under the “Shomotay Tarunno: Youth for Equality” project, this year’s award is being organised on a broader scale. It aims to recognise gender-sensitive and socially responsible journalism and creative content across news, entertainment and advertising.
Awards will be presented in eight categories, including newspaper reporting at the local and national levels, television reporting, online news, entertainment reporting at the local and national levels, drama, and advertisements including TVCs, OVCs and social media content.
According to the organisers, the award seeks to encourage the media and creative industries to portray women, men, youth, persons with disabilities and Indigenous Peoples with dignity, while reflecting diversity and promoting equal representation.
The initiative will also recognise journalists, media professionals and content creators whose work contributes to gender equality, human dignity and positive social change.
Eligible works published or broadcast between July 1, 2025 and July 31, 2026 can be submitted for consideration, subject to the award’s eligibility criteria and application guidelines.
The organisers said media plays a significant role in shaping public attitudes and social values. The award therefore seeks to promote responsible language, respectful representation and non-discriminatory perspectives on gender in news, entertainment and advertising.
