One person was killed and at least five others were injured when a moving passenger bus crashed into the rear of a stationary bus on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway.
The accident took place around 9:00 am on Sunday in Chaltipara area under Sirajdikhan upazila in Munshiganj.
The identity of the dead could not be known immediately.
According to eyewitnesses, a bus of Hanif Paribahan was standing on the lane heading towards Mawa. At that time, a speeding bus belonging to ‘Imad Paribahan’ rammed into that bus from behind. One person died on the spot and several passengers were injured in the impact.
Fire service personnel from Srinagar station rushed to the spot and rescued the injured, who were then sent to nearby hospitals for treatment.
“We began rescue operations immediately after receiving the report,” said Dewan Azad Hossain, station officer of Srinagar Fire Service. “The injured have been sent to hospitals and the body of the deceased was handed over to Hasara Highway Police.”
Police have seized both buses involved in the accident.
