A man was killed in a fire that engulfed a room on the roof of five storied building in capital’s Rampura area on Thursday night.
The deceased Abdul Hai alias Jamali Bipu, 45, used to live in the room, where the fire originated at about 7:55pm on Thursday, Fire Service and Civil Defence sources said quoting Bipu’s brother Abu Sayeed Sohagh.
Abdul Hai was mentally challenged.
‘After getting the information two fire trucks rushed to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control by 8:20pm. The fire was completely doused by 8:50pm,’ Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters duty officer Md Rakibul Hasan said.
Fire service sources said that they are suspecting the fire originated from cigarette and somehow spread to the other flammable items kept in the room.
