A total of 710 individuals have been arrested over the past seven months in Sylhet Metropolitan area as part of the ongoing ‘Operation Devil Hunt,’ launched to combat political unrest, armed terrorism, and other criminal activities.
According to Mohammad Saiful Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, the arrests were made across various locations. Of those detained, 341 were held for inciting instability, while 369 were taken into custody on other charges.
“Many of those arrested were fugitives in multiple cases,” said ADC Saiful Islam. “Some had direct involvement in recent incidents of political violence, arson, and terrorism.”
He emphasized that the operation aims to curb terrorism and uphold public order.
“Anyone engaged in criminal activities is being brought under the law, regardless of political ties. No one involved in crime will be spared,” he added.
