Members of Detective Branch (DB) arrested Abu Obaidul Hasan Bobby, 56, General Secretary of Bogura city unit of Awami League, in Dhaka early Friday.
He was detained from Gulshan area in the capital around 1 AM.
Arrested Bobby is a resident of Jaleshwari Tola area in Bogura city.
His arrest was confirmed by DB’s Officer-in-Charge, Iqbal Bahar.
It was known that Bobby was appointed General Secretary of Bogura town Awami League in 2019. He later contested as the party’s mayoral candidate in 2021 municipal elections but was defeated. Since the anti-government protests and student-led movement on 5 August last year, he had been in hiding.
OC Iqbal Bahar said that Bobby is named in at least 12 cases related to violence during the anti-discrimination movement. The charges include murder, use of explosives, and clashes. Legal proceedings against him are currently underway.
