Man killed over extramarital dispute in Pabna

A man was hacked to death in a dispute reportedly linked to an extramarital affair in Pabna town early Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 1:00 am near Sadhupara Bridge.

The victim Akash, 25, a tea vendor by profession, was the son of Sohel from Polythin Mor area under Pabna Sadar upazila. Another man, Nayeem, son of late Lalu Mondol from Sadhupara, was also injured in the attack.

Police have detained a man named Suvel in connection with the case.

Confirming the incident, Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdus Salam said the conflict arose from an extramarital affair involving a local housewife.

According to police and locals, a youth named Millat was allegedly involved in an extramarital relationship with a housewife from Sadhupara. On Tuesday night, a heated argument broke out between Millat, his associate Suvel, and the woman’s husband. Akash and Nayeem were reportedly with the husband during the confrontation.

During the altercation, Millat allegedly stabbed Akash in the left side of his chest and Nayeem in the back before fleeing. Locals rushed the victims to Pabna General Hospital where doctors declared Akash dead. Nayeem is currently receiving treatment.

OC Abdus Salam said, “It appears Akash died due to excessive bleeding from the chest wound. His body has been sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy. We have detained Suvel for questioning. No written complaint has been filed yet, but legal action will follow once it is received.”
