Two people, including a child, were killed and at least 15 others injured when a passenger bus fell into a roadside ditch after being hit by another bus in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur on Wednesday afternoon.
One of the dead has been identified as Shamsunnahar, 40, wife of Nazrul Islam from Wazirpur upazila in Barishal. The identity of the child victim has not yet been confirmed.
According to Officer-in-Charge Rokibuzzaman of Bhanga Highway Police Station, the accident occurred in Purbosadardi area when a Barishal-bound Euro Line Paribahan bus lost control and overturned after being hit from behind by a Shyamoli Paribahan bus attempting to overtake.
Seventeen passengers were injured in the crash, with the woman and child succumbing to their injuries on the way to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex, the OC said.
Police have recovered the damaged Euro Line bus and seized the Shyamoli Paribahan bus, although its driver fled the scene. Legal action is underway in this connection, the OC added.
