Locals caught the accused a week after the incident
Police have arrested a madrasa director in Kurigram’s Ulipur upazila on charges of raping a student.
The arrestee, Riazul Islam, 28, is a resident of Sarai Para village in the upazila.
Ulipur Police Station’s Officer-in-charge (OC) Zillur Rahman said, “The incident took place on October 5. Locals caught Riazul on October 12 when the madrasa student disclosed the matter.”
Later locals handed over the man to the police, he said.
The girl’s father filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act yesterday, he added.
The victim has been sent to Kurigram General Hospital for a medical examination.
