Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) has set a target of disbursing Tk 12.2 billion (1220 crore) as agricultural loan everywhere in Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions during the current 2011-12 fiscal.
Main thrust of the lending program has been designed for boosting crop production and rural economy as well as generating employment. Headquartered in Rajshahi, the specialised bank will disburse the loan through its 365 branches for crop production, fish cultivation, rearing livestock, purchasing agriculture and irrigation equipment, setting up small and medium scale agro- based industrial units and poverty alleviation.
RAKUB Managing Director Pradip Qumar Dutta told the news agency that the present government has earmarked the large amount of money for RAKUB for disbursing as crop and rural uplift loan only in the region during the current fiscal and we are very much hopeful of attaining the disbursement target. “We have fixed the target for disbursing Taka 600 crore as crop loan, Tk 2.80 billion as cash credit, Tk 620 million for livestock, Tk 450 million for agro-based industry, Tk 500 million for SME, Tk 270 million for micro-credit for poverty alleviation and Tk 220 million each for farm-irrigation machinery and fishery,” he added. During the previous 2010-11 fiscal, he said the bank has disbursed Tk 10.10 billion against the target of Tk 11.40 billion and recovered loan of Tk 1190.91 crore against the target of Tk 10.90 billion.
He said the bank has been putting in its level best effort to establish a dynamic leadership along with accountability and transparency in all its lending and operational activities to earn confidence of the clients. Process for promoting automation has been progressing fast in the bank aimed at ensuring online banking to the clients in general.
Pradip Dutta said a target has been set to make 212 out of total 365 branches computerise by June next. As the largest development partner in agriculture as well as agro-based industry sector of the northwest Bangladesh, currently, the bank has adopted multipurpose work plans being implemented at the grassroots to make the credit programs easier. Pradip Dutta said the bank has been implementing various new more need-oriented programmes to infuse dynamism into its business activities and socio-economic development of the northwestern region and the clients have started deriving effective results from the programs.
